Judith Ann Pearce

Judith "Judie" Pearce, 82, passed away peacefully at home in Biddeford, Maine, on April 8, 2026, surrounded by her loving family.

Judie was born February 14, 1944, in Portland, Maine, to Delma L. Galbraith and Rachel R. Galbraith. Judie grew up in Portland, attending Deering High School and later earning her bachelor’s degree from the University of Maine.

After college she married Edward K. Pearce on July 29, 1967, and together they built a life in Scarborough, Maine, where they raised three children.

Judie began as a teacher in the Portland school system, but after her children were born, she flourished as a counselor in the Scarborough Recreational program, working with kids after school. For over a decade, she was a beloved presence at Scarborough Downs, where she served food and brightened the days of so many.

She found great joy in simple pleasures—playing piano, knitting, and caring for her family. Judie had a deep love for nature and animals. Over the years she personally cared for the beloved family pets, Lassie, Bandit, Keighley and most recently, Halo. In her back yard she would feed the birds (and the occasional squirrel and chipmunk) and adored watching cardinals from her kitchen window. These quiet moments brought her great happiness and reflected her gentle and caring spirit. Helping others was at the heart of her life—she was loving, kind, compassionate and supportive of those fortunate enough to be around her.

Judie is predeceased by her parents, her husband Edward, and her oldest son Brett. She is lovingly remembered by her daughter Shelby and her partner John Sargent Jr., her son Anthony and his wife Maria, and their sons Bryce and Mason, as well as her sister Martha DiPietro and her husband Joseph DiPietro, and their children.

As a family, we always lived by the saying: we do the best we can, and that’s good enough!

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in Judie’s memory to the Animal Refuge League of Greater Portland.

The family extends heartfelt gratitude to the Southern Maine Agency on Aging and their Adult Day Program for their compassionate care.

Family and friends are invited to gather in her honor at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland on Thursday, April 16, 2026, from 4 to 6 p.m. to celebrate her life
