South Portland, ME - Kathy Linda Larsen, 76, of South Portland, Maine, passed peacefully into the arms of Jesus on January 5, 2025 after bravely battling ALS. She lived a Godly life quietly loving, encouraging, and caring for others.

Born March 26, 1948, in Portland, Maine, Kathy was the daughter of Rodney and Helen Larsen. She was the seventh of eight children. Kathy grew up in South Portland, attending school there, and graduating in 1966. Following high school, Kathy attended New Brunswick Bible Institute. She completed her education in 1970.

After graduation, Kathy found a job at Travelers Insurance Company. Later she worked in multiple positions at Emery Waterhouse. In 1983, she began what would be her life's work, serving as Officer Administrator at First Baptist Church in Portland, Maine. For thirty-one years, she dedicated herself to supporting the leadership and people of FBC. Throughout the years, she was very involved in the life of the church, teaching Sunday School, helping with youth activities and the numerous details involved in the work of the church's commissions and committees. During these years, Kathy began a women's prayer group, which she faithfully attended. She also helped to start a Christian Book Club that continued for many, many years. Since her retirement in 2014, Kathy has attended Eastpoint Christian Church in South Portland, Maine.

Kathy enjoyed reading, watching "happily ever after" movies, and urban hiking. Exploring cities was a favorite pastime, talking to locals to find places to visit off the beaten path, interesting places to eat, and neighborhood bakeries. Kathy loved spending time with friends and family. She had a wonderful sense of humor and found joy in life's simple pleasures.

Kathy is survived by two sisters, Frances Gagnon (George) of Gorham, Maine and Susan Whitten of South Portland, Maine; her brother, Michael Larsen (Lynn) of Johnson City, Tennessee; and numerous nieces and nephews.

Special thanks to the staff on R4 at Maine Medical Center and at Gosnell House for the loving care they gave Kathy in her final days.

There will be a Celebration of Kathy's Life on January 16, at 2:00 p.m. at Eastpoint Christian Church, 345 Clark's Pond Parkway, South Portland.
