Kevin Archer McDonnell

1954-2025

GRAY--Kevin Archer McDonnell died on Monday, March 10th in the comfort of his own home in Gray, Maine at the age of 70.

Kevin was born August 21, 1954, in Portland, Maine and was raised in Cape Elizabeth, where he went on to raise his own family.  At the age of 19, Kevin inherited his father's paint business, The Paint Pot, a longtime staple on Congress Street in Portland.  He remained in the paint industry for the majority of his career, retiring as the manager at Maine Paint in Yarmouth, Maine.

An athlete at heart, Kevin was a dedicated soccer player and later coached at both college and high school level.  He was a golfer, skier, fisherman, birdwatcher, reader, and had a deep appreciation for music.  Kevin had strong ties to his mother's roots in Downeast Maine and spent many summer vacations in Milbridge.  Taking pride in his Irish heritage, Kevin had a persistent twinkle in his eye along with the unique ability to tell a captivating story and never left you without a joke.

In his later life, Kevin became a pillar in the Alcoholics Anonymous community and would have celebrated nineteen years of sobriety in April of this year.  His family extends their eternal gratitude to the AA community and know his impact on others will continue long after his death.

Kevin is survived and will be missed by his wife Marcia, son John MacDougall (wife Shona), son Bryan (wife Emily), daughter Rachel (partner Jay), and four grandchildren: Jordan, Talia, Brigham, and Bennett.

Per his wishes, there will not be a service for Kevin.  In lieu of flowers, the family asks that donations be made in Kevin's honor to Milestone Recovery in Portland, Maine.
