Obituary

Kevin Sawyer, 59, passed away unexpectedly at his home in Falmouth, Maine on October 31st, 2024. He was born in Waterville, Maine on February 1st, 1965 to Carrie Bouchard and was later adopted by his father Everett Sawyer.

He grew up in Benton, Maine and attended Lawrence High School where he developed his passion for track and field. Kevin was a talented jumper during his time at Lawrence and took pride in the high jump and triple jump records he set, some of which he still holds today. It was also how he met his coach, soon to become a lifelong friend and mentor, Ray Winship.

He continued his passion for track and field by coaching the jumpers on his daughters' track teams while they were in school. He was inducted into the Lawrence High School Hall of Fame in 2018 for his track and field career.

Kevin married his highschool sweetheart, Robin in 1985. Together, they had two beautiful daughters, Paige and Kaley, who he adored. Building their life together in Cumberland, Maine, they were frequently on the go, taking their daughters on numerous family trips across the country. One of his greatest memories was tapping maple trees with help from all of the neighborhood kids and then making syrup each February. He has shared all of his maple syrup making secrets with his daughters who continue the tradition each year.

He apprenticed as an electrician at Bath Iron Works and later worked as a master electrician and HVAC tech for many years until his retirement in 2023. Throughout his lifetime he was the resident handyman to all of his friends and family who had him on speed dial for all of their home project needs.

Kevin was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather and loved spending time with his family.  He enjoyed bringing his grandchildren, Georgia, Dimitrios, and Leonidas, on tractor rides in the yard, sledding adventures in the winter, and fishing excursions around town. He wore the title of "winder-upper" proudly when playing with the kiddos. We will be sure to pass on to his children and grandchildren his renowned no-bake cookie recipe that he prided himself in making.

He was an avid hunter and outdoorsman. Sharing his passion for bird hunting and a glass of Buffalo Trace with his son-in-laws, Peter and Jeremy, were among his most cherished memories. One of his favorite places in the world was cruising Maine's Golden Road with his German Shorthaired Pointer, Pepper, and his fellow hunting buddies during bird season. Some adventures can't actually be printed, but you all know who you are and what you did. Please cherish these memories forever, because Kevin did.

Kevin is survived by his wife, Robin Sawyer; their daughters Paige and husband Peter Kombakis of Falmouth; Kaley and husband Jeremy Lott of Gorham; his beloved grandchildren Georgia, Dimitrios, and Leonidas Kombakis; and his sister Tena and husband Luke Harris of Fairfield.

Memorial arrangements will be announced at a later date.
