Lauralee Lidz 3/3/62 – 8/5/26

On August 5, 2026, Lauralee Lidz of Scarborough, Maine left her earth life after a short stay at the Gosnell Hospice House. She was 64 years young. Having been diagnosed with stage 3C, high grade ovarian cancer at the age of 52, Lauralee lived a rich and happy life defying odds of all kinds for twelve and a half years under the excellent care of Dr. Laurie Small and her team of Nurse Practitioners and Registered Nurses and Nurse Assistants, and the equally excellent family of Registered Nurses and staff at the Scarborough Infusion Center. She is forever grateful for each and all, of her care providers over these years.

Born in Englewood, New Jersey on March 3, 1962, Lauralee was the daughter of Louis Lidz, deceased in 1967 of Leukemia, and Barbara Holland Lidz, deceased in 2019 of multi-systems failure. Her sister, Carolyn, also pre-deceased Lauralee in 1967.

Lauralee spent her very early childhood years in Los Angeles, California where her parents worked as research geologists before moving to Key Biscayne, Florida. There she attended Key Biscayne Elementary School, followed by Ransom-Everglades School for Girls in Miami, and then completed semesters at University of Miami, University of South Florida in Tampa and University of Rochester in New York before beginning her IT profession in Atlanta, Georgia. After Atlanta, Lauralee chose to move north to be closer to her grandparents and aunt. In 2000, she took an IT position at Fairchild Semiconductor and settled in Scarborough, eventually setting up her own practice as an independent technology contractor. Her love was to write code, fix IT programs and upgrade systems for hospitals, municipalities and companies.

Animals were a high priority in Lauralee’s life. She had several cats and dogs, mostly German Shepherds, throughout her life. She regularly visited live cam-sites of eagles in the Alaskan wilderness, and of feline rescue sites to watch liters of kittens being born, nursed and raised for adoption. She would have taken them all in!

Having grown up around the geologic and oceanographic research world and having a strong sense of curiosity and desire for learning, Lauralee was an adventurer in her own right. She spent a summer working at the US Biological Station in Bermuda in her high school years and traveled to New Zealand by herself in her college years. And she was smitten with “everything technology.” Smart, sharp-witted, devil may care wryness, she could be a tease but only to those she was fond of. Deeply sensitive, yet staunchly practical and independent, Lauralee knew what she wanted and navigated her choices with research, discussion and precision. While she could call a spade a spade, she expressed gratitude and appreciation rapidly too. But most of all, Lauralee brought joy to this world…to every person she encountered, even through all the ups and downs of her cancer years, she could produce positivity and joy. She was a gift to humanity.

Lauralee is survived by her aunt, godmother, and teammate, Darcy Holland of Newbury, Massachusetts, her cat, Max and her shared-dog, Bodhi. She also leaves an uncle, John Holland of Copper City Michigan, three cousins, Caitlin Holland Gonzales of New London, NH, Cindy Goulazian Leberman of Chester, NJ, and Peter Goulazian of Woodstock, Vt., her friend Kimberly Logan, and the whole Logan family of Scarborough, Dave Gray and his wife Jean of Buxton, Me. and a long-time friend, Lisa Peaslee of Tampa, Fla.

Lauralee and her aunt are most appreciative and grateful for the Maine Medical Hospital, OBGYN Oncologist, Dr. Laurie Small and her team of Nurse Practitioners, Nurses and staff. She is especially thankful for her extended family at the Scarborough Infusion Center, who took such good care of her for over 12 years.

Lauralee and her mother will be buried together in a family service at a later date in their plot next to her grandparents, Dorothy Mullins Holland and Edward Morton Holland at the Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock, Vermont. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the SPCA or an animal shelter of your choice.
