Leona “Lee” Christ Anderson, 97, of Scarborough, Maine passed away peacefully on May 18, 2026. She was born on December 9, 1928 in Lakota, Iowa to Earnest and Marie Christ. Following her graduation from Lakota High School, Lee moved to Minneapolis, Minnesota to acquire a business degree in accounting and operations.

After finishing school, she married the love of her life, Curtis Anderson of Cannon Falls, Minnesota. His career with Sunkist Growers led to transfers to Des Moines, Chicago, and then to Los Angeles. It was there they spent 50 years building their careers and raising their two daughters in Westlake Village, California. Work and leisure took them to Spain, Egypt, China, Cuba and Europe.

For the majority of her career, Lee was a financial planning advisor with Mass Mutual Life Insurance Company in the San Fernando Valley. Lee’s civic and political interests were always a priority. She was instrumental in developing several organizations supporting women in business, served as chairwoman of the fundraising arm of the Ventura County Commission for Women, and was the first woman accepted to Rotary membership in the area.

With her husband she moved to Georgia to be closer to their youngest daughter and grandchildren. Following her husband’s passing she relocated to Maine to be close to her daughters, who reside in Portland and Falmouth. She loved doting on her grandchildren and treasured being a part of their lives. She was a resident of Piper Shores where she enjoyed being active with various committees.

Lee will be remembered for her tenacity, quick midwestern humor and devotion to her husband and family. She is survived by her two daughters, Cynthia Chaney (Larry) of Portland, Maine and Mary Reany (Jonathon) of Falmouth Maine, and grandchildren, Rachel, Sophie, Eliot and Ethan. Lee was predeceased by her husband Curtis Anderson, her parents Earnest and Marie Christ and siblings Edwin Christ, Alfred Christ, Alma Brandt, Helen Nelson and Frances Rivero.

The family wishes to express their appreciation for the nurses and caregivers at Piper Shores who tended to her during her illness. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Maine Cancer Foundation (https://mainecancer.org/matching-gift) The family will hold a private service.
