Obituary

CAPE ELIZABETH - Lisa Fisher, mother and educator, passed away unexpectedly on April 29, 2024.  She was 58.

Lisa, a long-time Cape Elizabeth resident, graduated from the Waynflete School in Portland, Maine, and Lesley University in Cambridge, Massachusetts, where she majored in early childhood education.  She spent almost four decades doing what she loved most - teaching young children from all backgrounds.  A fluent Spanish speaker, Lisa got her start teaching in Boston's Head Start programs, then spent two years indulging a taste for adventure by teaching primary school children in Cali, Colombia where she also met her husband, Guillermo, who predeceased her.  She eventually moved back to Maine to raise her two beloved children and teach in the Cape Elizabeth, Portland, and Lewiston school systems.

Lisa naturally gravitated towards helping the most vulnerable among us – children with special needs.  While it wasn't always easy, her patience and love for all children helped her navigate life's tribulations, including the childhood epileptic disorder that would eventually and unexpectedly take her life.

In addition to teaching, Lisa loved spending time in Kennebunkport, where she was a fixture at St. Ann's Episcopal Church and the Arundel Beach Club.  When not teaching, she could often be found completing devilishly tricky jigsaw puzzles, enjoying Sunday brunch at The Good Table with her beloved father David N. Fisher, Jr., or devouring romance novels one after the next.  More recently, Lisa developed a love for sushi, rarely missing her weekly date nights with longtime partner Sonny Tate.

Lisa is survived by her daughter Isabella Narvaez of Raleigh, North Carolina, son Alex Narvaez of Charlotte, North Carolina, partner Sonny Tate of Winthrop, Maine, and her three siblings.

A memorial service will be held at St. Alban's Episcopal Church at 1 o'clock p.m. on Friday, May 10, 2024.
