Mahlon Keith
Dudley Jr.
Jun 24, 1947 — Jan 6, 2025
Mahlon Keith Dudley, Jr.,77, of Portland, Maine passed away January 6, 2025. Mahlon was known as "Duddy" to all. Duddy was the second child of Mahlon and Gertrude Dudley. He had an older sister, Marlene Hammond and a younger brother Nathan "Nate" Dudley. Mahlon attended Portland schools and was a graduate of Portland High School where he excelled in football and went on to be the captain of the team. Dud was married to Sandy, who recently passed away on February 6, 2024.
Dud and Sandy met in the early 1980's and they quickly became inseparable. Sandy's best friend was Judy Curran who happened to be Duddy's first wife and the mother of Dan and Keith. Judy introduced Duddy and Sandy to each other. Duddy, Sandy, Judy and her husband Rick remained lifelong friends.
Together, Duddy and Sandy raised three children, Danny, Val and Keith. After their grown children were married, Duddy and Sandy decided to tie the knot. They were married on February 17, 1996.
Duddy was a successful pipefitter by profession, but those that knew him considered him a craftsman. Duddy could engineer, build, and fix anything. He was frequently called upon by family and friends for help.
Duddy also enjoyed his time in the hot tub after work, his love of food (Amato's Italian sandwiches), football and most importantly his family. He enjoyed trips to Florida where he could visit Val, his grandchildren and his sister, Marlene. Duddy coached Dan and Keith in football and enjoyed watching his grandchildren play sports. He also enjoyed biking to Bug Light and Striper fishing in Casco Bay with his brother Nate.
Duddy was a quiet, gentle and strong man who would do anything for anyone at any time. He always had a smile on his face, even in his final days. He was pre-deceased by his parents, Mahlon and Gertrude Dudley, his wife Sandra Dudley, his sister Marlene Hammonds and brother-in-law, Lawrence Murak.
Duddy is survived by sons Daniel Dudley and wife Jen, Keith Dudley and wife Michele and daughter Valerie Mendolia and husband Mark; grandsons Collin Dudley and wife Christine, Garrett Dudley, Anthony Mendolia, Vincent Dudley, Max Mendolia; granddaughters Gianna Dudley, Ava Dudley, Lily Mendolia and Olivia Dudley and great-grandson Beckham Dudley. He is also survived by his brother Nate Dudley, as well as many nephews and nieces.
Per Duddy's request, there will be no service and a private celebration of life will be held at a later date.
In lieu of flowers, Duddy's family requests donations to be made in his name to the American Heart Association https://www.heart.org/.
