Manuella (Mannie) Katherine Janosik, 85, of Scarborough peacefully passed away February 9, 2026. She was born in New York on March 13, 1940 to Steve and Frances DiLeonardo. Mannie grew up in Brooklyn, surrounded by a loving, extended Italian family. The Brooklyn Dodgers were Mannie's favorite. Her love of her team stayed in her heart long after she or the Dodgers stayed in Brooklyn.

As a child, Mannie was an exemplary student and loved learning. At 16 she left school to work and help out her family. Within the year, Mannie had met the love of her life, John Louis Janosik. They were married on December 28, 1957, in Brooklyn, New York.

Mannie and John were a career Coast Guard Family. Early on, they were stationed in multiple states and then happily settled in South Portland to raise their three sons. Mannie created a home for her family in South Portland. She was her boy's Den Mother for Boy Scouts, active in Little League and was the treasurer of the Small School PTA. All this while she fulfilled her desire to complete high school. At 31 and while her boys were in elementary school, Mannie returned as a Senior to the classrooms of South Portland High School. She graduated with the class of 1971. Though her grade point average put her at the top of the class, she felt the honor of Valedictorian should go to a younger student and she stepped aside. She had a love of history, but decided to take a path that would challenge her math skills. Mannie worked at Casco Bank in Monument Square for a number of years and built a career lasting over two decades in the finance department of Maine Medical Center.

Her family fondly remembers how she enjoyed attending the Blue Angels Air Shows and spending time on Belgrade Stream with family and friends. There were no leftovers of her fried chicken and everyone in the family remembers her apple pie and award winning cheesecake. A family gathering or holiday was not complete without her specialty cookie, Sour Cream Softies.

Mannie was a very special woman who made friends wherever she went. She had a uniquely wonderful sense of humor and quick wit. She will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing her.

Mannie is predeceased by her parents and her husband of 68 years, John L. Janosik, Sr. She is survived by sons: John L. Janosik, Jr. and his wife Lisa, Scott S. Janosik and his wife Susan, Michael D. Janosik and his wife Michelle; grandchildren: Sarah Janosik, Zachary Janosik and his wife Kathleen, Dylan Janosik and his wife Carla, Selena Campanella and her husband Joseph, Samantha Janosik and her fiancé Jack Briggs; great-grandchildren: Sonya, Wesley, Lucille, Manuella (Wella), Duncan, Camden; her sister-in-laws: Gloria Stahl and her husband Bill, Joan Gray and her husband Larry.

Family and friends are invited to gather for visiting hours on Friday, February 20, from 2:00 to 3:00 PM at the Stroudwater Christian Church, 1520 Westbrook St., Portland. A service to celebrate Mannie's life will begin at 3:00 PM, with a reception to follow at the church.

Mannie's family extends their deepest gratitude to the staff and nurses of the Maine Veterans Home and Compassus Hospice for their extraordinary care and compassion. You are truly angels. In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made to the Maine Veterans Home in Scarborough.
