Marilyn Alice
Tuttle
Aug 14, 1938 — Jan 14, 2023
Cape Elizabeth
Marilyn Tuttle, of Cape Elizabeth, ME, passed away on Saturday, January 14, 2023 in Scarborough, ME surrounded by her family. She was 84 years old.
Marilyn was born on August 14, 1938 in Concord, New Hampshire to the late Mary Alice and George Harry Wotton III. Marilyn grew up on Peaks Island and graduated from Portland High School in 1956. Soon thereafter, she married the late Daniel Tuttle of Peaks Island, ME, who she loved dearly. She attended University of Southern Maine where she obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree.
Marilyn took great pride in working for the US Postal Service for nearly two decades, while she and her husband raised their two children in Cape Elizabeth. The family summered on Peaks Island and Prince Edward Island, where she enjoyed painting, her favorite hobby, and spending time with relatives.
Marilyn was very loving, self-less, and always saw the best in everyone. She was a devout Catholic and faithfully attended services every Sunday. Marilyn could always be found on the sidelines of her grandchildren's sporting events; she was their biggest cheerleader. Marilyn was an avid reader, who also enjoyed playing bridge, attending art conventions in Mexico, and landscaping her waterfront properties.
In recent years, Marilyn most enjoyed spending time with her loved ones, and was able to appreciate the humor while her grandchildren reminisced about their favorite pastimes with her. Some of the most memorable include roasting hot dogs in the living room fireplace, the annual "Christmas Eve Eve" sleepover, her cluttered car, and all the shared glazed donuts and crispy pepperoni pizzas. She will be fondly remembered for her spirited nature, bad driving, and questionable sense of direction. Marilyn has left a beautiful legacy.
Marilyn is survived by her son Michael Tuttle of Cape Elizabeth, ME, her siblings: Marie Worthing of Lady Lake, FL, Mildred (Robin) Shoop of Virginia Beach, VA, Kenneth Wotton of Lady Lake, FL, Richard (Susan) Wotton of Fort Myers, FL, and sister-in-law Diane Wotton of Bealeton, VA, her nine grandchildren, and seven great-grandchildren. She is predeceased by her daughter Lori Orne, her husband Daniel Tuttle, and her brother George Wotton.
Visiting hours will be held at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland from 11:00 a.m. -1:00 p.m. on Saturday, January 21, 2023, with funeral service to begin at 1:00 pm and reception to follow. A public graveside burial will take place at 1: 00 pm on Tuesday, January 24, 2023 at Calvary Cemetery in South Portland.
Her family would like to thank The Gosnell House for their exceptional level of care and compassion. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Hospice of Southern Maine at 390 US Route One, Scarborough, ME 04074, or given online at www.hospiceofsouthernmaine.org/give .
