Miss Marita Carlton Gould,110, of South Portland, passed away on May 21, 2024 in Bedford, NH. She was born in Portland, Maine on January 18, 1914, daughter to the late Jennie Carlton and James Gould.

Marita received her primary education through the South Portland School Department. She also attended Sherwood Music School in Chicago where she advanced her music education. She taught piano and organ to many local students for over 79 years! She was an active member of the national Federation of Music Clubs and served as the Maine chairman. She enjoyed playing organ at Peoples United Methodist Church where she also was the director of the bell choir for many years.

Miss Gould is preceded in death by parents and sister, Barbara Pooler.

Services for Marita will be held on Wednesday, May 29, 2024 at Peoples United Methodist Church, 310 Broadway, South Portland. Visitation will take place from 10am-11am, Funeral Service will begin at 11am followed by a reception in the church hall from 12pm-1:30pm. Burial will follow at Black Point Cemetery in Scarborough.

Miss Gould's friends and family wishes to extend their sincere gratitude to Cecile and Arthur Dumont, Amy Sinclair, her family, all her beloved friends and the staff at Bedford Hills Center.
