Michael John Barker passed away at the Scarborough Gosnell Hospice on March 5th, 2022, surrounded by his family.

Mike was born on December 21,1945. Mike was a lifelong resident of Scarborough, and was raised in Pine Point where he spent the majority of his life, and was a true "Cricker".  He started school at a one room school house located in Pine Point, and later graduated from Scarborough High School in 1964 as a Scarborough Redskin, and remained close friends throughout life with many of his fellow graduates.

One of these friends set him up on a blind date, and in 1965 he married that girl who was named Judith Ann Carter. Together, their greatest joy was spending time with their family and especially their grandkids. They especially loved the times of Thanksgiving and Christmas where the entire family would get together and celebrate. They remained married until Judith Ann passed away in January of 2018.  Together, they had three loving sons; Jeffrey, Timothy, and Scott.

Later in life, Mike married his second wife Becky Spear. Together they shared a joy of travel; going for drives anywhere and anytime and especially to New Hampshire.  Mike and Becky would often do travel picnics at Pine Point and Laurel Hill.  What short time they had together, they enjoyed every moment having fun and just living life together.

Mike spent many of his early years as a lobsterman in Pine Point with Cecil Pinkham. He also worked for his father, Harold W. Barker at the sign company that he owned, Visual Advertising Media.  At the age of 16, he joined the Scarborough Fire Department as a call member, and remained active with the Engine 4 company throughout his life.   Mike later went to work for the Fairmont Corporation until he had a greater desire to help people.  In 1968, Mike was hired by the Scarborough Police Department where he had a distinguished career as a Sergeant and was later assigned to the Prout's Neck Division where he retired in 2008.  He was known to be the fastest speedloader in the department.   Mike and his father created some of the original design work for the Scarborough Police Department patches.

Mike's greatest hobbies and interests were History and family.  He loved working on and sharing his family genealogy and spent time In Great Britain tracing his ancestry. His favorite place to visit was Gettysburg, PA where he traveled to several times.  He had a love for travel far and near and would often just want to take a "ride".   When Mike had down time, he would often be reading a war history book, watching a "meaningful" television rerun, be out mowing the lawn, or visiting with his family and friends.  Mike was very proud of all his grandsons and loved them very much. Some of his favorite times were with his beloved only granddaughter Sienna who he equally loved.

Mike really enjoyed going back down to Pine Point on a regular basis.  He would sit in his car at the Co-op and have lunch.  Mike also looked forward to the Monday Night Supper Gatherings at Karen Lothrop's in Pine Point.  Mike also enjoyed the Breakfast Club with his fellow retired Police Officers. He was a social butterfly and could carry a conversation with anyone that wanted to "chat", especially if they needed to know a good restaurant to go to!

Mike is predeceased by his first wife Judith Ann Carter, father Harold W. Barker, mother Olive Townsend Barker, sister Susan Regina Barker.  Mike is survived by his second wife, Rebecca Anne; three sons; Jeffrey and his sons Nicholas Barker and Bodie Barker and their mother Tami; Timothy, his wife Elizabeth and their sons Colin and Owen; Scott and his son Ethan and daughter Sienna; Sister Bonnie Groh and brother-in-law Bobby Groh; many nieces and nephews; brother-in-law Paul and Karen Carter; Sister-in-Law Beverly Hall;  and very cherished friends; Rob and Ann Carson and Jimmy and Kathy Conroy.

There will be a celebration of life service on Saturday, April 30, 2022 at the Rock Church in Scarborough at 11 a.m. with reception to follow and family interment at Scarborough Memorial Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Memorial Donations in remembrance of Mike can be made to the Gosnell House in Scarborough, or a charity of your choice.

Loving husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, Mike shared his life and legacy with us through his deep chuckle, hard work and integrity to the end. Now is the time to say goodbye, but only for a short time until we meet your open waiting arms on the other side. We all love and miss you dearly.
