Nancy Elizabeth Green McKusick, of Falmouth, Maine, died peacefully surrounded by loving family in her home on July 6, 2022.  She was 98.  She was born on April 9, 1924 in Leominster, Massachusetts, the daughter of public health nurse Madge Anna Emory Green and pharmacist Charles Ernest Green.  She attended Leominster Public Schools and, in 1946, earned a BS at Tufts Bouve College, with a specialization in Physical Therapy.  After graduation, she worked in the Boston area as a physical therapist with veterans from WWII.  In 1951, she married Vincent L. McKusick, and supported him in his considerable professional achievements as a lawyer and jurist.  Judge McKusick served as Chief Justice of the Maine Supreme Court from 1977 to 1993.  He died on December 3, 2014 at age 93.

After Nancy and Vincent moved to Maine in 1952, she worked as a Physical Therapist at Maine Medical Center before her four children were born- all within 4 years and 11 months.

Nancy's volunteer activities included Junior League of Portland Maine, President of Board of the Catherine Morrill Day Nursery, Board of Directors of Camp Fire Girls Hitonowa Council accomplishing the purchase of the Camp Ketcha site in Scarborough, active member of First Parish Society (Unitarian Universalist), Secretary on the Board of Trustees of the Portland Symphony, Maine Medical Center Patient Care Survey Committee.  She was ahead of her time in understanding the importance of exercise and taught exercise classes at the YWCA.

While in college, Nancy worked summers as a camp counselor in Duxbury Massachusetts- teaching swimming, canoeing and sailing.   Physical activity was a way of life for Nancy, and her children and grandchildren have followed her passion for an active lifestyle.  She was an energetic mother packing up her four wild children for beach, camping or ski trips.  She cut down trees in her backyard to create a small ski slope, before the family ventured out to ski areas.  She loved sailing the Maine coast with her husband, Vincent, organizing camping trips for her family, skiing with her family and friends at Saddleback Mountain and Pleasant Mountain (now, Shawnee Peak), and tennis with family and friends.  She and Vincent loved their international travels and the friends they made along the way.

Nancy is survived by 1) daughter, Barbara McKusick Liscord (Paul S. Liscord III), granddaughter Emory "Emmy" Liscord Spiegel (Peter T. Spiegel) and grandson, Robert McKusick Liscord (Brittany Leonard Liscord); 2) son, James Emory McKusick; grandson, Gabriel McKusick; granddaughter Meagan McKusick (Daymion Mardel); grandson Nolan McKusick (Julia Stallard McKusick); and granddaughter Natalie A. McKusick; 3) daughter, Katherine "Kay" McKusick Ralston (Matthew Ralston); grandson Scott McKusick Ralston (Georgia Tillotson); and granddaughter, Elizabeth "Liz" McKusick Ralston; 4) daughter, Anne E. McKusick (Thomas A. Anastasio), grandson Albert T. Anastasio (Mary Katherine Montes De Oca); granddaughter, Grace E. Anastasio.  Nancy will also be missed by 7 great grand-children, many beloved nieces, nephews and dear friends.  There will be a private zoom memorial for family and friends, conducted by Rev. Elaine Peresluha of First Parish in Portland, Unitarian Universalist.
