Obituary

Pamela Ann Welch, 77 Windham- It is with a heavy heart that we announce the passing of our mother, Pamela Ann Welch, 77, formerly of South Portland. Pam passed away peacefully, on November 20, 2024, with her family by her side.

Pam was born on March 30, 1947 at St. Mary's hospital, located in Lewiston, Maine, the daughter of Hector and Vivian Cyr. Pam was raised in Lewiston, Maine and attended Lewiston high school, where she was a proud member of the Lewiston Blue Devils cheering team. Pam graduated from high school in 1965. In July of 1965, Pam went on to fulfill her lifelong dream of being a hairdresser by enrolling at Mr. Benard's school of Hair fashion. Not long after graduating from Mr. Benard's school of hair fashion, Pam met "Johnny Angel, the love of her life", our father, John M. Welch; and they were married on January 6, 1968. Pam worked from her home in South Portland, where she had a hair studio in the basement, with a sign on the front lawn that read, "Pam's Bayview Beauty." Pam also worked at some local funeral homes styling hair for the deceased to assure they looked their best at their final viewing for friends and family. Pam was an active member of her local Eagles club, V.F.W.,and often got involved in fund-raising activities. Pam spearheaded fund raisers at the former V.F.W Post #832 for many years, to benefit the Maine Cancer Society. Over approximately a six-year period, Pam raised over $60,000 and was always proud to let people know that all monies raised remained in Maine to help with cancer research. Pam enjoyed playing darts, sewing, fishing, playing cards and most of all being a hair dresser. Pam was an avid New England sports fan and loved to watch the Red Sox, Bruins, and Patriots.

Pam was preceded in death by her husband John M. Welch, her sister Sandra Curran, and both her parents Hector and Vivian Cyr. Pam is survived by her sister, Nora Waterman and niece Erin of Auburn, and her "Three Sons;" Shawn C. Welch and his wife Diane of South Portland, Ryan M. Welch and his wife Christine of Windham, Maine and Kevin J. Welch and his wife Theresa of South Portland. Pam loved her visits with her sister Nora and niece, not to mention the Sam's Italian sandwiches too!
