Paul R.
Robie
Sep 19, 1947 — Jun 1, 2024
Paul R Robie, age 76, of Scarborough, Maine, passed away on June 1, 2024 at the Gosnell House surrounded by his family. Paul was born to Chesley & Mary (Connors) Robie in West Stewartstown, New Hampshire on September 19, 1947.
Paul started school in New Hampshire before moving to South Portland when he was 8 years old. He graduated from South Portland High School in 1965. After high school, he enlisted in the Army and served in the Vietnam War as a Paratrooper with the 173rd Airborne Brigade. Returning home his best friend, Paul Curran, introduced him to his sister-in-law Jane Kierstead. Paul & Jane married on November 21, 1970 in Portland, Maine. He was employed in various jobs, but his passion was being a truck driver. His most recent positions were with New England Kenworth & Hews Trucking, retiring in October 2023. He was a lifetime member of the VFW, Eagles (FOE), American Legion and the Harley Owners Group.
Paul loved cars and motorcycles. He owned 45 vehicles and 7 motorcycles in his lifetime. Most weekends you would find him at a car show or working on his most recent purchase. Every year, he would ride in the Memorial Day & Veterans Day parades, in South Portland. Paul loved to watch his grandson's sporting events, especially his hockey games. He also enjoyed his trips to the casino, buying lottery tickets and having coffee with his friends at McDonald's.
Paul was always smiling and enjoyed talking to everyone he met. He enjoyed life to the fullest and it was hard when ALS started to slow him down from doing things he enjoyed the most.
Paul was predeceased by his parents, his nephew Mark, sister-in-law & brother-in-law Susan & Hartley Simmons and brother-in-law Chris Walsh.
Paul is survived by his wife of 53 years, Jane, his daughter Jennifer, son-in-law John Harmon, grandson Nicholas and his sister Jane (Gary) Lanese of Sarasota, FL. He will be deeply missed by his family, including his aunts Elsie, Mary & Grace, his sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law Sandra & David Skillings, Paula Walsh, Barbara & Paul Curran, Paul & Grace Kierstead, his nieces, nephews, cousins and his many friends.
The family would like to thank the nursing staff on the 7th floor of the MMC Coulombe Family Tower and the staff at the Gosnell House for their special care.
Visiting hours will be Sunday, June 9th from 2-5pm at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Rd, South Portland. Funeral services will be on Monday, June 10th at 10am at Hobbs Funeral Home.
