Pauline L.
(Baker) Powell
Sep 2, 1928 — Jan 13, 2024
WEST BATH – Pauline L. (Baker) Powell (95), passed away peacefully at home on January 13, 2024. She was the youngest of six born to Chester W. and Delia Baker on September 2, 1928 in Westminster, Massachusetts.
As a young girl she helped with the family dairy business delivering cream and milk when school was cancelled. As a young woman she took flying lessons and loved to go dancing. What she wanted most in life was to have a large family. In her mid-twenties, she met and married Maurice 'Sy' Powell, became Mom to his four small children and had three more children with him. They lived in Alaska for four years, lived some time in Maryland and Massachusetts before settling in Scarborough, Maine where they lived for 38 years.
Pauline was a warm-hearted person everyone adored from the moment they met her. She gave her love 110%, unconditionally, to everyone in her life. She not only loved and raised seven children and helped with numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren, but she also opened her heart and home to many neighbor kids. She was referred to by many as their 'second Mom' or Mama-P.
She worked hard, loved deeply, laughed fully and was a devote Christian. She loved to garden, nurturing the most beautiful roses, growing awesome vegetables, and making the best pickles.
Pauline is predeceased by her husband of 58 years, Maurice 'Sy' Powell, a daughter Barbara Powell, a son Robert Powell, grandson Robert Powell Jr., her parents and five siblings.
Pauline is survived by her sons Raymond Powell and Glenn Powell, daughter Maureen Powell and her partner Scott Kinne, daughters Doretta Chandler and Catherine Powell LeBlanc, sister-in-law Pam Jernberg and her husband Donald, many nieces and nephews, 20 grandchildren, 30+ great-grandchildren and a handful of great-great grandchildren.
Services will be held at Hobb's Funeral Home in Scarborough, Maine on January 27, 2024 at 1:00 p.m. Reception to follow in the same location.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Saint Jude's children's hospital (https://www.stjude.org) in memory of Pauline Powell.
