Peter C Rumery, a well-loved husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, passed away September 10, 2025 at the age of 92. Peter was born in Portland, ME to Earle H. Rumery and Helen Caldwell Rumery. He attended Portland schools and was a graduate of Deering High School where he was a prominent member of the band and played the saxophone. He joined the Army in 1953 and served our country during the Korean War while stationed in Germany. He skied competitively for the Army during this time and he placed 3rd place in the 1954 Army Troops Seventh Army Combined 3-Way Competition held in Garmisch, Germany.

He later attended UNH where he pursued a mechanical engineering degree and was elected freshman class president. In 1989 he was awarded the title of Registered Professional Engineer in mechanical engineering. He held many positions as a draftsman and mechanical engineer working on various projects some of which include alleviating excessive mechanical vibration in helicopter components for Sikorsky Aircraft, designing control parts and assemblies for aircraft and gas turbines for the Lycoming Division of Avco, as well as designing various new products for the Hague International organization, to name a few.

Peter loved his family above all. Spending time at the family camp and farm in Bridgton, ME entertaining cousins and grandchildren with his silly tricks and jokes, or impressive water-skiing skills. He was quick with a dry joke that would easily pass you by if you weren't paying attention. He loved watching his grandchildren play soccer and musical productions and concerts. He was an avid lover of music- listening or playing- and you would often see him tapping his foot along with any beat. He was immensely proud of his three children watching their journeys, celebrating their successes, and guiding in their challenges.

He leaves behind his loving wife Judy, his sister Ellie and brother-in-law Norm, his children Deborah, Scott, and Susan, as well as 5 grandchildren and 8 (almost 9) great grandchildren, along with countless cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends. Lives were fuller because of Peter's presence and unwavering support, and he will be deeply missed by everyone who has been lucky enough to know him.

A graveside service will be held at Riverside Cemetery, Cape Elizabeth on Thursday, September 18, 2025 at 1:30pm.
