South Portland - In loving memory of Richard Joseph Gato, born on September 2, 1945, who passed away on Sunday, April 28, 2024, at his home surrounded by his family. He is preceded in death by his beloved mother, Mary (Karantza) Gato, father, John Gato, brother, Timothy Gato, and sister, Elizabeth Gato. Richard is survived by his sister, Theresa, and his brothers, John, Christopher, and Kevin.

Richard's heart overflowed with love for his six sons: John and his wife Aimee, Jeffrey and his wife Heather, Joseph and his wife Karen, Timothy and his wife Terri, Isaiah and his wife Beth, and Caleb. He also held a special place in his heart for his nine grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

An unwavering supporter of the Boston Red Sox, Richard's passion for watching sports was matched only by his skill on the field, where he proudly played center field for the Pleasantdale Playboys. He treasured moments spent with his mother at Foxwoods, and cherished family outings to horse races with his brother and father. Richard's greatest joy came from the bonds of family, relishing every moment with his siblings, children, and grandchildren. He loved going to the beach and swimming in the ocean.

In 1981, Richard embraced his faith through baptism and became a devoted member of the Philadelphia Church of God.

Richard proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and worked for the United States Postal Service for 35 years.

Richard Joseph Gato will forever be remembered for his unwavering devotion to his family and faith. May his memory be a blessing.
