SACO – Richard (Dick) Hilton, Sr. of Saco, Maine, passed away August 28, 2025.  Born in Portland, Maine, 1938, to Claude L. Hilton and Geraldine Bartlett-Hilton.  Predeceased by three siblings: Claude E. Hilton, Margaret Shane, and Barbara Hagar.  Also predeceased by his ex-wife, Bambina (Bambi) Giacullo-Hilton.  Graduated Portland High School in 1957.

Dick left behind his children: daughter, Barbara Montgomery of Saco, Maine; son, Richard Hilton, Jr. of Saco, Maine; daughter, Judith Hilton of Hollis, Maine; and son, Bruce Hilton of Limington, Maine.  He is also survived by seven grandchildren: Eric Hilton, Sarah Anderson, David Morrill, Diana Barker, Andrea Norton, Lissa Hilton Harrigan, Stephen Hilton-Joyce; five great grandchildren: Daniel Marston, Isabella Gilpatrick, Chloe Barker, Lydia Norton, Harmony Hilton.

Dick and Bambi met in high school, married, and parented four children.  They built four homes together and ended their marriage after 38 years.  Dick was proud of the values he was able to instill in his four children and credits his wife, Bambi for her contribution as well.  Dick continued to support Bambi when needed.  Dick enjoyed the house building process, so he built one more home and a lakeside camp before settling into a condo in his final years.  Dick later met Gretl Graf, who became his beloved companion during his latter years, with whom he shared time, support and love.  He acknowledged her significance in his life and was grateful to feel needed in their relationship.

Dick knew the value of hard work and had an incredible work ethic.  His early career included Thom McAnn's Shoes, and Union Mutual, where he worked his way up from the mailroom.  He became Union Mutual's lead traveling consultant for their Medicare Department, servicing doctors across the State of Maine.  His later career included Blue Cross-Blue Shield of MA, Hilton Healthcare Reimbursement (Dick's successful Medical Billing and Consulting business), as well as sales for United Healthcare in this retirement.

Dick's volunteer contributions to his community spanned over 55 years, including helping others to understand Medical benefits and Medicare.  Dick was widely recognized and respected for his medical billing and Medicare expertise.  He received awards in Washington, D.C. twice, both recognizing his contributions to seniors and the Medicare program.  Dick became one of the original founders of Age Friendly Saco, ensuring seniors access to available community services.  Dick also worked as consultant for Maine Medical Associates, Maine Osteopathic Associates, and Maine Chiropractic Associates.

Dick volunteered for over 25 years with the National Muscular Dystrophy Association's annual telethon, beginning by answering pledge calls.  He then expanded the commissary services with the help and dedication of his family, which gave him great pride.

Dick enjoyed many things, including woodworking and repairing furniture, but his passion was golf.  He had wanted to be a professional golfer, but life had other plans.  That didn't stop Dick from playing as frequently as possible.  Dick hosted his annual Ginsberg Scramble Tournament (named for Dick's alias, Marty Ginsberg) for friends and family over 24 years.  Dick's bucket list included attending the U.S. Masters in Georgia, which he was finally able to do with his son, Bruce.

Dick often reflected on his impact on the lives of others, especially on the lives of his four children.  Dick showed his love for others through his actions, which were selfless, generous and supportive.  Anyone who knew Dick, knew him to freely share his knowledge and experience to benefit the lives of others.  He took great pride in his ability to help and guide others, especially to save substantially for retirement.  He wore a satisfied smile as he thought about the difference he had made in the lives of others.  Dick instilled these same moral values in his children, a strong sense of compassion for those with less and a desire to make a difference.  That was Dick…he made a difference!

A memorial service will be held at 11 a.m., Saturday, September 13, 2025, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, followed by a reception at the funeral home.
