Richard A. O’Brien

Richard Ambrose O’Brien, Jr., 77, passed away on May 29, 2026 at 12:42am. Born on May 26, 1949, he was predeceased by his parents, Richard O’Brien Sr. and Marion Stebbins O’Brien, and by sisters, Margaret Osher, Annie VanAnnon, Dorothy Braley, Mary Lirette, and Ruth Capobianco. He is survived by his wife, Cressida Brownrigg O’Brien, and his sisters, Helen Zicolella and Robin Leblanc of Massachusetts. Richard served his country with honor during the Vietnam War from 1969 to 1970, was wounded in frontline combat, and received the Purple Heart for his sacrifice and bravery.

Born in Worcester, and raised in Northboro Massachusetts, Richard grew up with his seven sisters and remained heavily devoted to family throughout his life. He was a high school graduate of Algonquin High School in 1968, who worked as a CDL Regional truck driver and heavy equipment operator his entire career. Richard leaves behind his wife Cressida of 36 years, as well as his stepsons Mark and Patrick Hassett. He and Cress spent 30 years in Auburn, Massachusetts, where they enjoyed raising golden retrievers and treasured time with family, especially their grandchildren Olivia Hassett Mellen, Thomas and Megan

Hassett and Isabella Ann Hassett. In 2018, they moved to Maine to spend their retirement years with nearby family.

Richard was a member of the Elks Club 2118 in Auburn, MA, Legion Post 76 in Scarborough, ME and AMVETS Post 2 in Yarmouth, ME. A man known for his smile, warm sense of humor, and kind heart, he brought joy to those around him and will be deeply missed.
