Richard W. Snell, born on March 4, 1950, in Whitman, Massachusetts, passed away surrounded by loved ones. Known to many as Rick, he entered the world on his grandmother's couch, the son of Clifford F. Snell and Bernice Pike Snell, both of whom predeceased him.

Rick graduated from Hanover High School in 1968, where he played football and performed in the marching band as a saxophonist. He later earned his Bachelor of Science in Computer Science from Bridgewater State College in 1984. The first in his family to graduate from college, one of Rick's most significant achievements was his children's educations; they hold two doctorates, three master's degrees, and four bachelor's degrees.

He served his country with pride in the U.S. Navy, working in communications and earning the National Defense Service Medal. After his military service, Rick continued his career in communications at the Naval Air Station in South Weymouth before joining the Department of the Navy at Supship in Bath, Maine, where he worked as a computer specialist.

Deeply involved in his community, Rick served as a Deacon and Vice President of the First Congregational Church of Christ in Wiscasset, Maine. He also attended Days Ferry Congregational Church in Woolwich. He also dedicated his time to public service as a Selectman for the town of Woolwich.

As a young man, Rick built and drag raced a Pontiac GTO named the Goat with his friends.  He was a fervent Patriots fan from the team's founding. He also loved to play cribbage—a pastime he shared often with family and friends. Rick was a confident handyman (although on more than one occasion, his confidence outstripped his skill) and did much of the finishing work on the family home in Woolwich, built sheds, play structures, loft beds, dining nooks, and other items his family dreamed up.

He is survived by his beloved wife of forty-five years, Suanne, and their children:
• Rachel, married to Joe Miller, and their children, James and Myles Snell-Miller;
• Sarah Wiley and her children, Elijah, Hannah, and Jonah;
• Adam, married to Adrienne, and their daughter, Elsie;
• Jared.
He is also survived by his sister, Kathy O'Brien, and her family; and his brother, John Snell, and his family.

A service will be held Saturday, December 6, at 11 a.m. at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough.

In his last months, the staff at Cape Memory Care and Gentiva Hospice cared for Rick. His family is endlessly appreciative of their professionalism and compassion. In place of flowers, donations may be made to the Memory Disorder Division at Massachusetts General Hospital or the Lewy Body Dementia Association.
