Rin Ann, 41, of Scarborough, passed away unexpectedly on September 2nd. Rin was born in Khao I Dang, Thailand where he spent the first few years of his life before his brave parents brought him first to the Philippines, then to the United States, settling in South Portland when he was five years old.

Rin was a bright, joyful, loving child. He excelled in school and was a shining star at Kaler Elementary School and Mahoney Middle School. He was loved by many teachers because of his generous nature, enthusiasm for learning, and competitive spirit. He loved to compete with friends academically, on the soccer field and basketball court. Rin was a proud member of the students of the 21st Century program. Mentored by Penny Carey, he graduated from SMCC and later completed his studies at USM becoming the first college graduate in his family.

Throughout Rin's life he cared deeply for his family. He loved his siblings, often putting their needs ahead of his own. It was rare to see Rin in the neighborhood without his younger brother Thyrak by his side. When his sister Nancy's children were young he was the best uncle a kid could wish for. Lexi and Mathew enjoyed many trips to the beach, Funtown, and fun sleepovers with Rin and Emily. Rin always had a smile on his face and a joke on his lips. He loved to entertain others, always trying to make people happy.

Rin worked at the Olive Garden tending bar for many years and had various other jobs in the restaurant industry. Rin was a dreamer and spoke often of running his own business, which he was able to make happen opening a tow company with his brother-in-law Curtis. He also enjoyed golf, music, the Boston Celtics, and his mother's wonderful cooking.

Rin was predeceased by two significant people in his life. First his brother Thyrak who died in a car accident in 2006 and then his grandmother, Yan Soeur, a special person in his heart, who died in 2015.

He is survived by the love of his life and girlfriend of 25 years, Emily Salisbury, of Scarborough and was looking forward to becoming a father this October, his lovely mother Lon Ho and husband San Mang of Scarborough, his father Uth Ann and his wife Sokana Sou of Mississippi, his sister Nancy Gleason, her husband Curtis Gleason, niece Alexis Baker and nephew Mathew Gleason of South Portland, as well as many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.

Please join us for a celebration of Rin's life at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland on Thursday, September 8th. Visitation is scheduled from 10:00am -11:00am followed by a service at 11:00am.
