Obituary

On a beautiful sunny afternoon, August 20, 2023, Robert Earl Huff, Jr. rode his Gold Wing motorcycle into Heaven after a brief illness.

Robert (Bob) was born October 18, 1933 in St. Petersburg, FL to the late Robert Earl Huff, Sr. and Sarah (Smith) Johnson. Bob spent his early years in Florida and moved to the Buxton area as a young boy, graduating from Deering High School in 1951.

Bob met the love of his life, Dorothy (Dottie) Jordan while working as a bagboy at Shaw's Supermarkets, and Dottie was a cashier.  Bob had a motorcycle at a young age and Dottie was drawn to his good nature and good looks.  They married June 30, 1956 and began their 67 years together.  They moved to Andover, MA where their son Robert and daughter Dianne were born.  They eventually settled in Cape Elizabeth where their two other daughters, Sandra and Lisa were born.

Bob was a man of many interests.  He completed his apprenticeship at Saco Lowell Shops and enjoyed his career as a mechanical engineer. He had his own business in the later years of his life.  He loved riding his motorcyle, mowing his perfectly groomed lawn (don't drive on the grass he would say), and could fix anything that was broken.  He was known for taking broken items from the Swap Shop in Cape just to bring them home and fix them.  Bob believed in writing to his politicians and getting involved.  Bob also restored a few antique vehicles.  His latest being a 1969 Ford Thunderbird. He was also a cat lover and had many cats as pets.

Bob and Dottie had a beautiful, classically traditional marriage whereby, he took care of everything on the outside of his house and she took care of everything within it.  He was famous for "dubbing around", and even in the last few weeks of his life, he had many projects he wanted to get into.

Bob was a family man and loved spending time with Dottie and the kids at his Aunt Helen's cottage on Sebago Lake or his Aunt Mary's beach house on Higgins Beach.  He loved to surf the waves.  He enjoyed taking his kids on motorcycle rides as well.

Bob is predeceased by his parents, his Aunts Louise Leavitt, Mary MacMinn, and Helen Dean.

Bob is survived by his loving wife Dorothy Huff of Cape Elizabeth, son Robert Huff of Standish, daughters Dianne Stephenson of Cape Elizabeth, Sandra Hopkins, of Saco, and Lisa Prentiss of Falmouth.  His grandchildren include Christopher Huff, Chelsea Snider, Brian Stephenson, Kayla Hopkins, Rachel Hopkins, and Ruby Prentiss.

The family would like to thank the medical providers and staff of Maine Medical Center Cardiology Unit.  Their care, compassion, and kindness meant the world to him and his family.

A small graveside service will be held on Saturday, August 26, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Riverside Cemetery in Cape Elizabeth.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in his name to the Animal Refuge League.
