Roberta "Bobbi" Price Herzig, beloved mom, gramma, sister, aunt and friend, passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 12, 2022 after a short illness. She was surrounded by the love and support of her family.

Bobbi was recently described as a beautiful "sparkplug". Her optimistic, glass full outlook on life, its challenges and pleasures, was contagious. Full of energy and opinions, her days were full, and her love was big. Many were touched by the light of Bobbi's spark. She will be greatly missed and lovingly remembered by her family and her friends.

Bobbi was born in Toledo, Ohio, on April 11, 1939, to Eleanor Bair Price and Robert Luman Price. Her childhood was spent moving every few years due to her father's jobs as city manager. She often recalled stories of the homes they lived in and the adventures she shared with her two sisters, Chris and Prue, and brother, Fred. In 1958, her father's job took him to Lashkar Gah, Afghanistan. At 19, Bobbi sailed alone on the Queen Mary to join her parents and younger sister there in October of 1958. Her voyage, and the people she met and experiences she had while living in Afghanistan created a great love of travel that continued throughout her life.

Returning to the United States, Bobbi enrolled at the University of Missouri in Columbia. There in 1959, her roommate set her up on a blind date with a "handsome guy" named John Rex Herzig. On September 2, 1961 the two were married. She often said it was a good thing she took that chance! The two started their married life living with her in-laws while John finished his degree. Then in 1962, Bobbi and John moved to Maryville, Missouri where they welcomed their two children, Becky and David, and became a family of four. With career changes, the family moved multiple times living in Decatur, IL, Kansas City, MO, Signal Mountain, TN, and Madison, WI. In 1978, tragedy struck when John died unexpectedly from a heart attack. A young widow with two children, Bobbi remained in Madison for one year, and then moved her family to Readfield, Maine. With great foresight and courage, Bobbi returned to college first at University of Maine - Augusta and then Farmington, where she earned her B.S. in Secondary Education in 1983. She then began a 26 year teaching career at Pittsfield High School in New Hampshire. Bobbi was a passionate educator who was loved by her students and colleagues. She cared deeply for the students she taught and always strove to meet them where they were and help them grow academically and as human beings.

In retirement, Bobbi continued to find purpose. For nearly a decade, she split her time between the family camp at Duncan Lake Cottages in Ossipee, New Hampshire and the greater Portland, Maine area. Summer would find her hosting family and friends at her cottages and winters would find her knitting, playing bridge, traveling, taking courses at Osher Lifelong Learning Institute, and savoring time with her family and friends. Bobbi's final landing was at The Park Danforth in Portland, Maine. There she found a wonderful community that she embraced, became an active member of and developed many friendships.

To Bobbi, family was precious. She loved being a mom, a daughter, a sister, and an aunt, but her most favorite role was "Gramma". Bobbi was her five grandchildren's biggest fan. Whether cheering at an athletic event, applauding in a theater, swimming at camp, playing games or reading together, chatting, or knitting, she found great joy in watching them grow.

Bobbi was predeceased by her husband, John Rex Herzig, parents Robert and Eleanor Price, and two of her siblings, Christine Powers and Frederic Price. She is survived by her sister, Prue Gabriel of Laguna Niguel, California, her children and their spouses: David and Elaine Herzig of Windham, and Becky and Dean Dadmun of Cape Elizabeth, and her five precious grandchildren: Emma Dadmun, Jack Herzig, Katherine Herzig, Maggie Dadmun and Kyle Herzig. Bobbi is also survived by her nieces, nephews and their families who were all so dear to her, and many friends she considered family.

Bobbi's life will be celebrated and honored at Hobbs Funeral Home in South Portland, Maine on Saturday, August 6 from 1:00-3:00 pm. Visiting hours will take place 1:00-2:30 pm. At 2:30, we will gather together to celebrate her life and invite anyone who would like to share a favorite memory or story.
