Westbrook- Rodney Edward Poore, 84, resident of Westbrook, formerly of Scarborough went to be with his Savior peacefully on Sunday October 13 at Stroudwater Lodge in Westbrook surrounded by his loving family.

Rodney was born on June 19, 1940 in Augusta, Maine to Edward and Anna Poore. He grew up in East Boothbay and graduated in 1958 from Boothbay Region High School where he was voted "most popular" four years in a row! Rodney continued his education at Southern Maine Vocational Technical Institute (SMVTI) where he graduated with a major in building construction.

While attending SMVTI, he started dating Karen Marr, his sister Mary's good friend.  Rodney and Karen dated for three years and were engaged for two more years. They were married on June 16, 1962.

Rodney began his first career as a building contractor in 1960, and in 1965 became a partner with Ralph Hopkins. Their business, Poore and Hopkins, lasted for 25 years and their friendship lasted a lifetime. Together, Rodney and "Hoppy" built new homes and remodeled others with skilled precision.

In 1989, Captain Poore began his career in lobstering. This was his passion. He thought and spoke endlessly about his love for the ocean until the day he went to be with Jesus.

Rodney lobstered out of Pine Point in Scarborough where he developed many new friendships in the lobstering community. He had 2 large lobster boats. The first was called "The Three Sisters" and the second "The Ida Himes". Rodney finished up his dream with his wife Karen at his side as stern woman for two summers.

In 1966, Rodney began building their house at 108 Holmes Road in Scarborough. The result was a great home in which the family lived until September 2023. Rodney and Karen moved to Stroudwater Lodge a year ago due to Rodney's battle with Lewy Body Dementia.

Rodney was predeceased by his parents Edward and Anna Poore. He will forever be remembered by his wife of 62 years Karen; their amazing children, Nathan Poore and his wife Jennifer, Andrew Poore and his wife Kate Ireland, Erin Dupee and her husband Eric; six perfect grandchildren, Anna Poore, Katharine Poore, Marston Poore, Garrett Dupee, Hope Poore and Caleb Dupee, and his sisters Martha Reed and her husband Alan and Mary Tilton and her husband Alan and eight nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will be forever blessed of many memorable times with this positive, loving, quick witted man. His legacy will live on through his grandchildren and generations to come. Rodney has left an amazing footprint on this earth, never to be erased.

Arrangements have been made by Hobb's Funeral Home 671 US Route 1, Scarborough. Visitation and a service lead by Pastor Tim George will be held on Saturday, November 16 (visiting hour 10:00-11:00 AM with a service immediately following). After the services, a luncheon and celebration of Rodney's life will be held at Willowdale Golf Club, 52 Willowdale Road, Scarborough.
