Ross Frederic
Beale
Sep 18, 1952 — Apr 8, 2024
Ross Frederic Beale of South Portland was an inspiration to so many. He was a man with a giant heart, sharing all he had with his family, friends, and neighbors in the Willard Beach area. Ross grew up in North Deering and had many life-long friends from the neighborhood. Even through years of his battle against myasthenia gravis (MG), he was always willing to lend a hand, offer words of wisdom, and a kind smile. He was especially proud of helping others across the country and around the world who also struggled with MG, finding both solace in and a passion for helping others in their online community.
Ross lost his battle against MG and its effects on April 8, 2024. He leaves behind his loving wife of 47 years, Ellen (Romanoff) Beale. Their love is unending. He is also survived by his daughter, Kim, her husband Shawn Smith, and their daughters Meghan and Shelby. He leaves two brothers Dan Beale, his husband Paul Mavris, and Jim Beale, his wife Mary, and their son, Mason. He also leaves behind his in-laws, Joy Beale, Kathy Harriman, Chuck and Pam Romanoff, Steve Romanoff and Anne Jepson, Ed Romanoff and Joyce Presutti. He also loved being Uncle Ross to his many nieces and nephews in the Beale, Davis and Romanoff families. His cousins in the Andrews, Sawyer, Dodge, and Hanson families were precious to him.
Ross loved to take short trips all around Maine. He loved every part of the state, in particular the beaches near his home, Brandy Pond, and the old family homestead Downeast. When he was able, he loved walks and hiking in the mountains.
Being busy was important. He was a trained carpenter and educated in electronics, working initially as a self-employed contractor and later worked on the installation of the EZ Pass system. He was always ready to lend a hand when needed.
Ross was born on September 18, 1952, in Portland, the son of Captain Keith and Ruth (Hanson) Beale. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his brother Keith Beale, sister Diane Davis, brother David Beale, and brother-in-law Roger Harriman.
A memorial service will be held at a later date, as he wished. In his honor, reach out to a friend and say hello. Ross loved to send texts out of the blue and on random topics. Take a walk at Portland Head Light or Willard Beach, or anywhere with a great view. He loved his dogs; give yours an extra piece of cheese from Ross. Donations in his memory can be made to your local animal shelter or to the MG Foundation at myasthenia.org.
