SOUTH PORTLAND--Sandra Lee - Rose (Carrier) Barnard, 73 of South Portland, Maine, passed away on April 14, 2026, in Portland, Maine after a brief illness. Sandra was born in Portland, Maine to Robert and Joan Carrier, on June 15, 1952.

Sandra grew up in South Portland, graduating from South Portland High School in 1970 with High Honors. After high school she attended Maine Medical Center’s - Radiology Tech School, graduating in 1972. She was a traveling Radiology tech and worked in many states before medically retiring.

She lived with type 1 diabetes for 60 years. She demonstrated remarkable courage and perseverance throughout her life. She faced this diagnosis with strength and resilience.

Sandra enjoyed reading, knitting, Ancestry and family, especially her grandchildren.

Sandra married Bruce Hixon in 1972 in South Portland, Maine, raising two children.

Sandra is predeceased by her father, Robert Carrier, her son, Jeremy Hixon and her partner, Joseph Johnson.

She is lovingly remembered by her mother, Joan A. Carrier (Scarborough), her daughter Jessica Sargent (Lisbon Falls), Jessica and Jeremy's father, Bruce Hixon and his wife Annette Hixon (Bowdoin), granddaughter Isabella Hixon and grandson Oliver Hixon and great - granddaughter Athena Lee Hixon – Prindall. Her brother Daniel R. Carrier and his wife Penny (South Portland), brother David A. Carrier and his wife Diane (Gorham), sister Cheryl A. Carrier (Scarborough) and brother Mark E. Carrier and his wife Robyn (Scarborough) and many other family members and friends.

Services will be held on Monday, April 20, 2026, from 10am - noon at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 US Route 1, Scarborough, Maine. There will be a graveside service following at 1pm at Brooklawn Cemetery, located at 2002 Congress St, Portland, Maine.
