It is with a heart full of cherished memories that we announce the passing of Sharon Walters Berry, 62, who passed away peacefully on January 15, 2026 surrounded by her dearest loved ones. She was born as Sharon Ann Walters in San Antonio, TX. Our beloved wife, daughter, sister, mother, sister-in-law, mother-in-law, grandmother, and friend left this earthly world too soon, but left behind a legacy of love and laughter.

In 1979, she met the love of her life, the thin blond-haired rebel (believe it or not), Gregory W. Berry. From first kisses at Crescent Beach State Park to dancing at prom, their formative years were spent together with passion, honor, and respect which carried into their future together. Her words noting in a high school yearbook that they "had a lot of good times with many more to come", which was no exaggeration. Engaged May 6, 1983; married February 4, 1984; welcomed baby number one March 10, 1987; then baby number two April 29, 1994; checking all of her boxes one-by-one, side-by-side. They created a life of luxury together. Not "luxury" as most interpret that word, but in the sense that there was nothing more that she could have ever asked for. It was perfect to her. "Just remember [Gregory] how good our relationship is, and how much we've got going for us. I'll love you forever, no matter what. Love always, Sharon."

A graduate of South Portland High School, Class of 1981, Sharon was ranked 5th in her class, a member of the drama club, the Pi-cone South Mathematics League, and the school's majorette's team. She went on to earn an Associate's degree in Business Administration from University of Southern Maine in 1983 and then a Bachelor's in Business Administration/Accounting from Westbrook College in 1988.

Her career was an example of great dedication in accounting and financial operations, touching lives along the way and creating lifelong friendships at each place of employment. Her professional life began at Maine Medical Center and continued onto the Portland Symphony Orchestra, Anthem, and ending full circle back at Maine Health. Sharon's passion for excellence led her to develop a successful career with her management describing her as "a dedicated friend and a trusted co-worker, someone [their] team could always rely on. [She] never hesitated to step in when help was needed, and she took great pride in making sure everything was done correctly and on time. She didn't just meet expectations—she thought beyond them, always thinking outside the box and bringing fresh ideas to the table." Adding that what they'll "remember just as much as her work ethic is the joy she brought into [their] days. [They] genuinely loved [their] time together, whether in the office or outside of work. Many lunches were spent gathered in a conference room, takeout spread across the table, crocheting or knitting, laughing about just about anything. No topic was off-limits, and those moments were filled with warmth, honesty, and connection. Sharon had a way of making ordinary moments special simply by being there. Her kindness, creativity, and sense of camaraderie left a lasting mark on all of us. She will be deeply missed, but the memories we shared with her will always remain close to our hearts."

In her off time from work, Sharon was typically spending it with her family and friends whether it a special event, a spontaneous gathering, a meal, or shopping with her sister. She also spent it cooking extravagant, over-the-top, delicious lunches alongside Chef Greg at the Scarborough Fish & Game Club for their monthly sporting clay competitions, putting her speed reading skills to use by reading on average 100 books per year, attending many shows and concerts with friends ranging from small local productions to Broadway plays and several out of state travels to see her "secret" crush, Keith Urban. In more recent years, Sharon enjoyed traveling with her family frequently, visiting all the places she had dreamt about and more. She traveled all over the United States, including an Alaskan cruise and adventuring throughout Alaska with her husband, the Florida Keys and Hawaii. Internationally, she visited Saint Lucia, England, Ireland, the Dominican Republic, and Aruba. Her last trips were France in August 2025 with her husband, son, daughter-in-law, and grandson (4 months old); West Palm Beach, Florida in September 2025 with her daughter and granddaughter (11 months old); and in October 2025 to Nashville with her sister. The next one was planned for Marathon, Florida in May to celebrate Mother's Day and Greg's 65th birthday. The family still plans to go and include celebrating Sharon's memory and love of traveling with her family.

Sharon took her role as "Mimi" very seriously. It was her final checkbox on her bucket list for life. She got a glimpse into its joys with the addition to her family of Hazel and Nolan after her daughter's marriage to their dad in 2022, spoiling the heck out of them every chance she could get. Then, she reached pure bliss upon the arrivals of Emma Ann on September 23, 2024 and then, 7 months later, Archer Roosevelt on April 15, 2025. There is no way to describe the amount of happiness she was experiencing. She was enthralled by their existence. She couldn't stop herself from buying them every cute piece of clothing or toy she saw for them, shopping end of season deals for clothes that would only be able to be a worn over a year later or toys that they couldn't even use until they are 2 or 3. She felt lost if she couldn't see them at least once a week. Always referring to herself in third person now, "Mimi needs her Emma and Archer time!" The smile on her face for her grandchildren will never fade in our minds.

Sharon leaves us with a legacy of her high values, support, voice of reason, life lessons, guidance, lack of judgement and, most of all, her fierce, selfless, and unconditional love which will continue to inspire her daughter and son, as they continue to build their own families and embark on parenthood. Her memory will be forever cherished and used as a guide throughout their futures.

Sharon cherished her family above everything and she reunites in the afterlife with her in-laws, Dwight W. and Mary E. Berry; brother-in-law, F. (Billy) McGaughey; aunt, Margaret (Margie) Smith; and cousin, Jennifer Smith. She is survived by her soulmate, husband, high school sweetheart of 47 years, married just shy of 42 years, Gregory W. Berry; daughter, Stephanie Fogg, and her husband, Joshua, and grandchildren, Nolan, Hazel, and 16-month-old Emma; son, Nathaniel Berry, and his wife, Allison, and 9-month-old grandson, Archer; parents, Ronald W. and Judith A. Walters; sister, Carrie McGaughey; brother-in-laws, Stephen Berry (Stephanie) and Jeffrey Berry (Joanie); nephews, Ryan McGaughey (Tracey and children), Brendan McGaughey (Mercedes and children), and Kyle Berry (Tracy and children); niece, Krystle LeClair (and child); along with many very close and special friends to our entire family. They know who they are. The ones who were there for her loved ones in person and spirit during her final fight. The ones who sent their positive thoughts and prayers. The ones who gave a shoulder to cry on and/or a helping hand. The ones who checked in often and offered their words of support, encouragement, and sympathy. The family wants all to know that it was not taken for granted and truly appreciated more than words could ever convey.

Sharon was cremated, and her remains will stay with her beloved husband until it's time to be laid to rest at the family's cemetery of choice. In her memory, we are reminded that "Life is beautiful and short, and you only get one. Live it on purpose," a message that Sharon kept with her noted on piece of paper as a constant reminder to herself.

Visiting hours will be held at Hobb's Funeral Home, South Portland, ME, on Thursday, January 29 from 3:00 PM to 6:00 PM. In honor of Sharon's love for the color purple, the family invites you to wear purple to the wake.
