SCARBOROUGH - Susan Myrtle LaRoche of Scarborough, ME, passed peacefully Thursday, October 20, 2022.

Born in Melrose, MA, on April 5th 1942, Susan was the daughter of the late Cosmo and Grace Polito.

She met her husband Jack in 1960. They knew they were meant to spend their lives together and were married December 22, 1960. Susan and Jack started a family and traveled around the country to wherever his service took him. They settled in Maine when Jack retired from the Navy.

Susan was passionate about family, home, holidays, her pets, snowmen and bringing joy to those around her. Susan filled her days with work, entertaining family and friends, cooking and crafting, and reading. Her hobbies included baking, shopping, bowling and watching her favorite game and home renovation shows.

Susan's early vocation was taking care of her family. As her family grew up she transitioned to employment outside the home. Of all the roles she played she is most fondly remembered as being the Tupperware lady and as a cashier at Hannaford because she greeted everyone with a smile and a kind word.

Never did her family or friends have a store bought cake if she could help it. There were very few events that she didn't have a special cake pan for. She baked and decorated every cake with love.

Susan did not sit idle in retirement. She was often seen delivering brownies, other sweet treats and handmade items around town. She was a member of the Senior Bowling League at Big 20 in Scarborough and a lifetime Weight Watcher member.

Becoming a grandmother was joyous for Susan. She loved spending time with her four grandchildren, watching them grow, trips to Hannaford and involvement in all aspects of their lives.

Susan and Jack treasured their time together, made more precious because of the time they spent apart in the early years of marriage. They enjoyed trips to Florida and a cruise to Alaska. Unfortunately her health failed later in life. She persevered and overcame difficult odds to continue to be a strong presence for her family, friends and community.

She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, grandmother, sister and aunt. Her endless energy, determination and thoughtful nature will be greatly missed.

Susan is survived by her daughter Ruth Palmer and her husband Anthony of Chattanooga; her son Jack LaRoche, Jr. and his wife Stacy of Biddeford; her brother Ed Polito and his wife Pat of Saco; and her four grandchildren Pamela Hennings and her husband Frank, Laura Weeks, Sarah Weeks and her partner Scott Rowe, and Vanessa LaRoche. She is predeceased by her husband Jack.

The family extends gratitude to the caregivers of Maine Medical Center and Gosnell House.

Visitation will be 12-1 p.m., followed by a memorial service at 1 p.m., Thursday, October 27, 2022, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 671 US Route One, Scarborough, Maine. Online condolences may be shared at www.hobbsfuneralhome.com.
