Obituary

SIDNEY – Thomas E. Stenger, Jr., died following a 4+ year bout with lung cancer on September 10th, 2026. He was born in Rockland, Maine, on August 21, 1962. He was the son of the late Maxine and Thomas E. Stenger, Sr.

Tom turned 18 while attending U.S. Army Basic Training. He loved America and proudly served his country during the Gulf War in Saudi Arabia. During his time in the service, Tom traveled throughout the United States and the world, with his time in the Army taking him across Europe, Africa, and the Middle East. Tom was an Aircraft Technician and held his Airframe and Power Plant license since 1986, including seven years holding his Inspection Authorization license.

Upon returning home to Maine, Tom married the love of his life, Jayne, also of Gorham, on October 4, 1997. Together, they purchased their first home in Windham and welcomed their only child, Matthew, on April 30, 1998. They later moved to Sebago, where they resided for many years, remaining there through their son’s high school and college years before eventually settling into their home in Sidney for their final years together.

Tom was a selfless person who was always looking for ways to help others and was willing to give the shirt off his back to anyone in need. He was kind, generous, and had a great sense of humor. He had a deep love and appreciation for America, as well as a love for cooking and a passion for motorsports. Tom especially enjoyed spending his summers and falls traveling to Loudon, New Hampshire, with his son to attend the races, creating memories they shared together.

Tom is survived by his son, Matthew T. Stenger of Westbrook; older sister and brother-in-law, Jill and Peter King of Gorham; younger sister, Amy Doyle of Auburn; and his awesome Golden Retriever, Bella.
