CAPE ELIZABETH - Known to his friends and family by his middle name, Blaine went to be with his Lord and Savior on November 6, 2024.

Throughout his life, Blaine believed in following Jesus' commandment to "love your neighbor" and he lived this in his service to his community gladly, with integrity, dedication and love.

Blaine and his twin sister Bessie were born in Portland to Frances Elizabeth Doughty and Howard Hubert Jardine, and raised in Cape Elizabeth, Maine, along with his other 4 siblings. As a child, he often played in nearby Fort Williams park, exploring the fascinating military bunkers and roaming through the fields.

Blaine graduated from Cape Elizabeth High School, where his height made him a star player on the basketball team. After graduating from High school, he attended Eastern Nazarene College in Quincy, Massachusetts for 2 years. Here he discovered his heart's true calling, and he returned to Maine to attend the Maine State Trooper's Academy. In 1960, Blaine became the youngest member to join the force, where he served with honor for 24 years, retiring in 1984.

After retirement, and as his training and experience were in law enforcement, he was looking to continue to serve in that field. He was offered 2 positions, one of which was with the Secret Service, as protection for the president. He had frequently been part of a security detail stationed at Walker's Point, when President and Mrs. Barbara Bush were in residence. He loved to share a story where one day, he noticed Mrs. Bush tending her garden. She looked up at the tall young trooper guarding her so diligently and offered him a glass of her homemade lemonade. He always told us, it was delicious! However, because this choice would mean spending a great amount of time away from his family, he decided to accept a position with the Federal Marshal's service, working as a security guard in the Federal Courthouse in Portland, and so he left for training camp in Georgia immediately following his retirement from the force.

Blaine's life of service seemed to come full circle as his final job was as a Greeter working at Fort Williams Park/Portland Headlight, where he played as a child. He would rise early, grab a coffee and make a preliminary patrol of the park, searching out any hazards, and collecting any litter, making sure the area was safe and beautiful for the many who visited every day.

Blaine's interests included tending his rose bushes, spoiling his dogs, and happily tinkering around the house. He was skilled in carpentry, and that meant he was the first call whenever there was a loose step, a new deck to build, laying down a tile floor, or any other repair or project for his family! He would tackle the various projects, large or small, with his usual attention to detail and precision, and he actually seemed to enjoy it!

Blaine and his dear wife Nancy recently celebrated 64 years of marriage. Together, they raised 3 beloved daughters. He was a devoted husband, father, and grandfather who loved spending time with family. There were many happy backyard BBQ's and celebrations with loved ones!

Blaine attended the South Portland Church of the Nazarene from infancy, later becoming a member of the church and a church board representative. He was a devoted Christian man, an inspiration to his children and grandchildren, and an example to others of how to worship Christ. We are all so blessed to follow in his footsteps in our Christian walk through this life.

Blaine is survived by his beloved wife Nancy, his children, Robyn Vachon and husband Joe, Heidi Dyer, and her husband Richard, and Rebekah Jardine Belanger, his grandchildren, Joshua Vachon and wife Ashley, Jacob Vachon, Nolan Dyer, Christopher Jardine and wife Johnna, and Zachary M. Alfieri, and great-grandchildren W. Connor, Jayson and Stephen Jardine, and Eliana and Olivia Vachon, his siblings Bessie Brown, Jennifer Ross and husband Bill, and Everett Jardine and wife Lois, along with many beloved nieces and nephews.

A viewing will be held on Friday, November 15th, from 4-7 p.m., at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.

Services will be held at South Portland Church of the Nazarene on Saturday, November 16th, from 10-11 a.m., followed by a procession to Riverside Cemetery, where a ceremony will be held.

A reception will follow at South Portland Church of the Nazarene at 12:30 p.m.  All are welcome.
