SOUTH PORTLAND — William Graves Funk, a devoted family man, tech enthusiast, and cherished friend to many, passed away peacefully at his home on September 6, 2026, at the age of 80. Born on April 5, 1946, in Toledo, Ohio, to William C. and Betty Funk, Bill brought a unique warmth, humor, and dedication to everything he did throughout his rich life.

Bill grew up in Barrington, RI, graduating from Barrington High School in 1964 before continuing his education at Johnson and Wales Junior College of Business. For 33 years he traveled across New England as a dedicated appliance salesman for General Electric. He was a familiar, trusted face to many, balancing his professional drive with an easygoing nature that made people feel instantly at ease.

Retirement didn’t slow Bill down; it simply opened the door to a brand-new passion. After taking a computer class at Southern Maine Community College, he found himself entirely hooked on technology. He poured this newfound energy into the South Portland Schools’ IT department and eventually launched his own business, proudly and affectionately calling himself "The Mature Geek." Whether fixing a hard drive or helping someone navigate a new program, Bill loved using his skills to connect with and help others.

Yet, for all his interests, nothing held a candle to his family. Bill’s greatest joy was simply spending time with those he loved. He was a profoundly proud grandfather to Megan, Drew, Annie, and Izzie, and he held a very special place in his heart for his beloved grand puppies.

He leaves behind a legacy of love and laughter in the heart of his wife of 57 years, Sarah (“Sally”); his children, Kristin and her husband Doug and Eric and his wife Alyssa; his four grandchildren; and his sister, Sally Jane Funk. He joins in peace his parents and his uncle, Corporal John R. Graves, who went before him.

The family extends their deepest, most heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Anna Niegowska and the entire oncology unit at Northern Light. Over the last year and a half, your exceptional, tender care meant the world to him. "Funky Bill," as he was so fondly known, genuinely loved your team and felt profoundly grateful for the comfort and dignity you provided.

Family and friends are invited to gather, remember, and celebrate Bill's life on Saturday, September 19, 2026, at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland. Visiting hours will be held from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM, followed immediately by a memorial service at 12:00 PM and a reception.
