Obituary

Yvonne Christina Williams
June 12, 1981 – April 16, 2025

Yvonne Christina Williams, beloved wife of Michael D. Mowles, Jr., resided in Cape Elizabeth, Maine.  She grew up in the village of Carnaun, Athenry, Galway, Ireland with her loving parents Tommy and Evelyn Williams surrounded by siblings, aunts, uncles, and many cousins.  She attended Carnaun National School, Gairmscoil Mhuire (secondary school nick named "The Tech"), and the Limerick Institute of Technology for Computer Science.  Growing up she worked at a restaurant on Shop Street in Galway, where she was loved by all and advanced to being a manager.  After college, she worked for Dell Ireland.  Yvonne emigrated to the United States in 2002 and worked for the Better Business Bureau in New York City.  She soon took up a career as a bartender in some of the many Irish Pubs in NYC where her friendly bubbly personality shined.  She continued to work as a bartender when she first moved to Maine.  She soon transitioned to an administrative assistant working in businesses where she could use her business and computer skills.  Yvonne was proud to be an Irish Citizen and a Permanent Resident of the United States of America.

Yvonne met her husband Michael Mowles in NYC in June 2017.  After a whirlwind romance she moved to Maine in October 2017.  Michael proposed marriage to Yvonne at Athenry Castle on 8/13/21.  They were married in a civil ceremony at The Portland Club on 2/26/22, but the real wedding day with family and friends was celebrated in Athenry, Ireland on 8/13/22.  Yvonne loved her two puppies Motte and Bailey.  Her world revolved around them.  She enjoyed walks in the woods around their home with Michael and the puppies, and other locations such as Portland Head Light, Kettle Cove, Crescent Beach, and Bradbury Mountain.  Yvonne was such a fun spirit when in the company of her friends and family. Yvonne will be dearly missed by all.

Yvonne is predeceased by her brother Gabriel.

Yvonne is survived by her loving husband Michael, and his children Meghan, Michael, Katherine, and Brian.  She is also survived by her father Tommy, her mother Evelyn, her sisters Anne and Claire, her brothers John, Tommy and Damien, sisters-in-law Linda, Mairead, and Caroline, her brother-in-law Tom, Anne's partner George, and many nephews, nieces, grand-niece, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Visiting hours will be from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, April 25 at Hobbs Funeral Home, 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.  A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10 a.m. on Saturday, April 26 at St. Bartholomew Catholic Church, 8 Two Lights Road, Cape Elizabeth.  Following the Mass, there will be a reception at the Maine Irish Heritage Center, 34 Gray Street, Portland.
