Maureen S. Thorne, 86

GRAY - Maureen S. Thorne passed away on March 12, 2018, at Sedgewood Commons in Falmouth, Maine.

Maureen was born in Portsmouth, New Hampshire, on February 29, 1932.  She was the daughter of Milton C. Bowman and Margery Kershaw Bowman.  She attended schools in both Portsmouth and Portland.  She resided in South Portland and, for over thirty years, in Gray.

On October 14, 1953, Maureen married Douglas A. Thorne.  Douglas preceded her in death on March 5, 2010.

For many years, Maureen worked as a waitress in the Portland area.  She retired as a school bus driver for the City of Portland.

When not working, Maureen and Doug enjoyed traveling to Canada and to many places in the United States.  One summer, she and Doug traveled to England and Scotland and visited some of her mother's family.  She went to England one more time alone and stayed with family.  She captured these memories with her camera.  After Doug passed, she still enjoyed driving shorter distances with her camera on the seat next to her.  Maureen always had a cat at home awaiting her return.

In addition to her husband, Maureen was predeceased by her mother on February 28, 2002.  Another important influence on Maureen's early life was her uncle, John Johnley, who helped raise her.  Uncle John passed on December 3, 1966.  She is survived by her daughter, Janice L. Thorne of Portland, and her son, Douglas K. Thorne and his wife, Dianne of Cumberland.  In addition, she is survived by her grandchildren, Stephanie Thorne and Jacqueline B. Thorne of Portland; step-grandchildren, Samuel Spinazola, and Sunday White and her husband, Tyler.  Maureen also leaves her two brothers, Robert J. (Laura) Lanouette of Omaha, Nebraska, and Gary T. (Donna) Lanouette of Portland, and many nieces and nephews and their families.

An hour of visiting will be held at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, May 1, with a memorial service to follow at 11 a.m., at Hobbs Funeral Home , 230 Cottage Road, South Portland.
