Alton E. Morgan, 89, died peacefully after a brief illness on March 16, 2022 at Seaside Skilled Rehab Center. He was born in Gardiner June 3, 1932, son of Alton F. and Theresa (Palmer) Morgan. He was raised in Randolph and graduated from Gardiner High School in 1950.

He moved to Washington, D.C. to work for the U.S. Air Force at the Pentagon and later as an accountant for Washington Gas Light while attending Georgetown University. He had fond memories of singing with a local choir and performing in a Christmas Concert.

He eventually returned to his beloved great State of Maine where he met and then married Helen Bryant in 1957. He graduated from the University of Maine - Portland in 1963 while raising a young family with Helen. Alton worked for the State of Maine for 34 years, during which time he became a public accountant.  He was kind and cared for his neighbors and community. He volunteered for the Boy Scouts of America, the PTA and South Portland Little League. He was past president of the SoPo-Cape Kiwanis. He served two terms on the South Portland School Board, served on the Civil Service Commission and enjoyed his time as a State Representative in the 118 ^th Legislature.

He was a big fan of all New England sports teams. He was a post card and sports card collector.  Al played chess and was a member of the Portland Chess Club. In later years, he enjoyed playing bridge. He took great pleasure in gardening and providing vegetables to family and friends.  He had a well-known sweet tooth, and loved gatherings when he could enjoy a treat. He was an avid reader and loved singing. He participated in multiple choirs and delighted in being part of variety shows and concerts. He also had great fun as member of a barbershop quartet and performing at many events.  He enjoyed taking his family camping and hiking. He hiked Baldface many times with his sons and friends, which included overnight camping under the stars and many stories to tell. Al loved traveling with Helen. He especially enjoyed his time in England visiting his mother's family. He took great pride in researching and documenting family history.

Al was outgoing, friendly and enjoyed meeting new people and sharing stories. He showed continued kindness even in difficult times and was a friend to many. His greatest love was for his grandchildren and being surrounded by family. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.

Alton was predeceased by his sister Lorraine (Morgan) Smith and her husband, George.  He is survived by Helen, his beloved wife of 64 years; sons Stephen Morgan and wife Debbie of Presque Isle, Timothy Morgan and partner Nancy of Cumberland Foreside; daughters Judith Bogdanovich and husband Peter of Scarborough, and Kathleen Fecteau and husband Brian of Westbrook; grandchildren John Morgan and wife Elisha, Sam Strumph and wife Chelsea, Benjamin Morgan, Luke Bogdanovich and wife Nicole, Heidi Bogdanovich and fiancé Matthew Shimshock, Mason Morgan, Zachery and Nicholas Fecteau; great-grandchildren Ashley and Eleanor Morgan, Ava Morgan and Gwyneth Strumph; two nephews Lawrence Smith and wife Dorothy of Ojai, CA, and David Smith and wife Ann of Augusta and their families.

Visiting hours will be at Hobbs Funeral Home 230 Cottage Road, South Portland, on Tuesday, March 29 from 4 -7 PM. A memorial service will be held at 11AM on Wednesday, March 30 at Thornton Heights United Methodist Church, Westbrook St. South Portland.
