Obituary

Scott K. Ducott died on August 8, 2015 doing what he loved, swimming in the ocean. Scott was the quintessential family man, a loving husband to Jane Rogers Ducott for almost thirty two years and adoring dad of Sarah Jane Ducott of Boston, William Tallman Ducott (Will) and his treasured dogs, Ollie and Clatey. Scott, born in Malden, MA, also leaves behind his devoted mother, R. Jean Ducott, his siblings, Rich Ducott, Tara Cosco and her husband Vin, and Tracy Maroney and her husband Dan. He also leaves behind a brother in law, W. Timothy Rogers and his wife Diane, three nephews, one niece and many loving cousins and friends and a special uncle, Robert Ducott. His predecessors include his father, Richard Allen Ducott and Jane's mom and dad, Janice Gifford Rogers and A. William Rogers. Scott enjoyed an adventure. Whether it was romping around the woods as a child with his siblings, nearly losing his pinky to a rock wall; racing to the water's edge crashing face first into the waves on family vacations in RI and Florida, kayaking to islands off the coast of Maine, or building a giant mound of snow next to the house for his kids (and himself) to jump off the roof into, Scott enjoyed a good time. One of Scott's biggest claims to fame was his love for fireworks. Fourth of July celebrations were over the top. The sky would light up and the show would go on and on and on. He took pride in being able to put a smile on a child's face, or an adult's, who for in that moment, felt like a child again too. Countless evenings and weekends were spent creating the most intricate and exciting projects. Papier-mché, paint, glue, sticks from the yard, clay, every medium imaginable were gathered and constructed into school projects, and just-for-fun projects. It was the teamwork and accountability, the expectation and gratification that made these exercises so fun for his family. The best were his designs for sand castle competitions in Weekapaug, RI and his winter snow beagle sculptures in New York and Maine that were easily seven feet tall. Scott loved to cook, but it was his love for Saturday morning breakfast that woke his son up from his boyish slumber, brought his daughter home for visits and drew a sigh of "that was delicious" from his wife. The Hollandaise was perfection and if it wasn't just right, then back at it he went until he presented you with the perfect Eggs Benedict or egg and bacon sandwich for the less than enthusiastic "Eggs Benny" fan. Scott was a long time Vice President of Engineering for Time Warner Cable, moving his family to many locations in the U.S. to build, rebuild and take over cable systems, bringing new services and optimizing existing services to local customers. He was the "Get it done guy, the go to guy, the cable guy." He cared deeply about his work, his word and the many people who touched his life. Scott started his cable career just out of college as a warehouse manager at Continental Cablevision in 1981. He worked his way up performing most jobs on the technical side of the business and told his employees, "Don't kid a kidder." He was a patient mentor, a critical thinker and a trusted colleague. At his time of death, he worked for the Time Warner Cable Corporate Office in Herndon, VA as Senior Manager for the IntelligentHome Technology and Product Support division. He was active in Scarborough, Chairman of the Scarborough Community Garden at St. Nicholas Episcopal Church, co- treasurer at St Nick's, the famous Wisconsin Bratwurst chef for the annual fair and known for his delicious spreads that were prepared for Logan Place residents. Scottie was present in all of our lives; he was there for a shoulder, a hug, a smile, a chuckle or a chat. He was a regular guy with a big smile, loyal heart, devoted to and cherished by all. Scott's life will be celebrated on Saturday, September 19, 2015 at 11 AM, at St Nicholas Episcopal Church, 350 U.S. Route 1, Scarborough, ME, 04074. All are welcome.
